KUCHING, Feb 7 — Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy secretary-general Datuk Ibrahim Baki is rumoured to be eyeing a vice-president post in the party election during the PBB Convention taking place this February 14-16.
The Satok assemblyman may make a run for one of the four vice-president posts in the Bumiputera wing, sources indicated to The Borneo Post.
Another said to be interested in contesting for a vice-president post in the Bumiputera wing is Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who is Kuala Rajang assemblyman.
The incumbent Bumiputera wing vice-presidents are Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, and Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
All four had retained their posts uncontested in the last party election during the 2022 PBB Convention.
Julaihi and Abdul Karim are state ministers, while Dr Annuar and Dr Abdul Rahman are deputy ministers.
In total, PBB has nine vice-president posts, including three for the Pesaka wing and two reserved for the respective Women and Youth chiefs.
The incumbent Pesaka wing vice-presidents are Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, and Datuk Gerawat Gala. All three posts were also uncontested in the last PBB Convention.
Sources also indicated the upcoming convention will see contests for the 16 ordinary supreme council posts in the Bumiputera wing, but not for the 14 posts in the Pesaka wing.
There will also be no contest for the top five party posts, namely President, Deputy President I, Deputy President II, and two senior vice-presidents.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg is PBB president, while Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan are Deputy Presidents I and II, respectively.
The two senior vice-presidents are Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
The closing date for submission of candidacy forms for the PBB election is today (February 7), after which the list of candidates will be finalised. — The Borneo Post
